oh good :)

Hola! I wanted to let everyone know I had a fabulous time at Frieze, listening to Koons, and at the art auction last weekend. Weekends like that are why I am here. Amazing. Seeing incredible art...some not so incredible, seeing famous people (Stella McCartney - saw her twice last weekend...crazy), enjoying London. It was so much fun!!!

Monday I started woking on my essay that is due the 23rd. We have a reading week this week. So I have been taking advantage of this time to use the British Library and the library at school. It has been amazing delving into great sources. I found a book of transcribed interviews that is fantastic. It is by Patricia Norvell. She was a grad student when she interviewed conceptual artists in the 60's. It is a first-hand account of what artists were thinking and doing in that time. It is absolutely incredible!!! She was a great interviewer, asking all the right questions to get them to really open up and be free with their thinking and process. She interviewed Robert Smithson (of land art fame), Robert Morris (who was also her professor at the time), Sol LeWitt, and others. She also interviewed Carl Andre, but he didn't want his interview to be included in the book unless he could edit it. Norvell believed that all the interviews should be left as is and therefore left out his from the book. She waited 30 years before transcribing these interviews. When she did put them in this book "the tapes were transcribed verbatim to preserve the original concept and process of this project as well as the historical veracity of the tapes themselves."

Ok. You have probably fallen asleep by this point, but please, if you have any interest in conceptual art or learning how artists think about their work READ THIS! The title of the book is Recording Conceptual Art. It is edited by Alexander Alberro and Patricia Norvell. It is basically the best read ever. Love it. ok. enough. I told you guys I would update...I didn't promise that it would be interesting. This is what I do though. I read, I get excited about what I learn, and then I spill it out to anyone who cares to listen :)

I hope all is well in the USA, Costa Rica, Mexico, Honduras (all my family across the world :) If you are anywhere else reading this (ie UK or anywhere) I hope all is well there, too :)

I really need to get focused on my paper again. Typing this helped. It got me excited :) haha I love conceptual art!!!!!!!! It is so fascinating. ok. bye ! :)

Adios!
